Question

Words rhyme when they end with the same sound, like cat and hat or pig and wig. Hearing and seeing rhymes helps children notice the parts of words, which makes reading new words easier. Each box on this sheet shows one short word in a frame and three words below it. Only one of the three rhymes, and the child circles it.

The words come from the same checked list as the word family worksheets: short words with one vowel, like cat, pen, dog and bug. The two words that do not rhyme share a letter or the vowel with the word in the frame, so the child has to read to the end of the word instead of guessing from the first letter. Set Families to short a only, mixed vowels, or all ten families.

Press New sheet for new words, lock the boxes you like, or Shuffle a single box. The answer key prints on a second page only when you ask for it, and every sheet prints in color or black and white, on US Letter or A4. Nothing to sign up for.
