Matching a picture to its shadow asks a child to look at the outline of a shape and ignore its colors — the same skill that later helps them tell letters like b and d apart. Each box on this sheet shows four or five colorful pictures on the left and their shadows, mixed up, on the right. The child draws a line from every picture to the shadow that fits it.

The first pair in every box is already joined with an arrow, as an example, so the child sees what to do before starting. Set Pictures to everyday pictures, or to the Halloween or Thanksgiving pictures for a holiday sheet, and Pairs to four or five in a box. Pictures whose shadow is just a circle or a square are left out, because their shadows cannot be told apart.
