Puzzle

A word search turns reading into a hunt. The grid is full of letters, and a few real words are hidden in it — the child looks along the rows and down the columns, finds each word and circles it. To find a word, a child has to hold its letters in mind and match them in order, which is good practice for reading and spelling the same words.

Set Words to picture words — short words like cat, sun and frog, each shown with its picture in the list — or to the Pre-K or Kindergarten sight words. Grid 6 by 6 hides four words and 8 by 8 hides six. Words only go across from left to right and down from top to bottom, never backwards or on a slant, and every word appears in the grid exactly once.

Press New sheet for a new puzzle, and choose one big puzzle or two smaller ones on a page. The answer key prints on a second page only when you ask for it and shows where every word is. Every sheet prints in color or black and white, on US Letter or A4. Nothing to sign up for.
